Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our products, installation process, and how to get started.

Free On-Site Measure Acmeda Authorised Motorisation 140 km/h Wind-Tunnel Tested Australian Made Systems 7-Year Motor Warranty
What is a ZipScreen awning?

A ZipScreen is an external roller blind with a zip-guided track system. The fabric locks into side channels creating a sealed barrier that blocks heat, wind, rain, and insects without blocking your view. They're the most effective way to cool your home and extend your outdoor living space.

What's the difference between spring and motorised ZipScreens?

Spring-operated are manual — pull down, push up. Great for occasional use. Motorised use an Acmeda motor with remote control, upgradeable to app, voice, scheduling, and sun/wind sensors. We recommend motorised for hard-to-reach areas or smart home integration.

How much do your products cost?

Every installation is custom-sized and priced based on your requirements. Use our instant estimator on the home page for a ballpark, then request a free on-site measure for exact pricing. No obligation, no pressure.

What areas do you service?

The entire Sunshine Coast and Noosa region — Caloundra, Maroochydore, Mooloolaba, Buderim, Nambour, Coolum, Noosa Heads, Noosaville, Tewantin, and all surrounding areas.

How does the installation process work?

Free on-site measure and quote first. Once approved, products are custom-manufactured (2-4 weeks). We then install at a time that suits you — most jobs completed in half a day.

Can I automate my blinds with my smart home?

Yes. Our motorised products use Automate by Acmeda, compatible with Google Home, Alexa, Apple HomeKit, Home Assistant, and SmartThings. Control via app, voice, schedules, or automatic sensors.

What warranty do your products come with?

Acmeda motors and Pulse Pro hubs carry a 7-year warranty. Remotes carry 5 years. Our workmanship is guaranteed — any installation issues, we come back and fix it.

How do I maintain my awnings and blinds?

Very little maintenance needed. Hose down external awnings every few months. Motorised systems are essentially maintenance-free.

What colours and fabrics are available?

ZipScreens come in standard Colorbond frame colours with a wide range of mesh and PVC fabrics. Indoor blinds available in hundreds of fabrics. We bring samples to your measure appointment.

How do I get a quote?

Fill in our quote form or email us directly. We're currently taking advance bookings: you'll get an email confirming your place in the queue, and when our installation window opens (August 2026) we book your free on-site measure and deliver a written quote — no obligation.

How much wind can a ZipScreen handle?

ZipScreens have been tested at Monash University's wind tunnel to withstand speeds up to 140 km/h. However, we recommend retracting them in winds above 50 km/h to protect the mesh from stretching and ensure long-term fabric aesthetics.

Will your hardware rust in coastal areas?

Our systems use all-aluminum extruded and cast components — not steel. For homes directly near the ocean, we also offer 304 stainless steel bracket upgrades that remain pristine in salt air, where standard steel brackets from other suppliers typically rust within 5 years.

How often do motorised blinds need charging?

Acmeda's published figure for the Automate battery motors is up to 500 up-and-down cycles per charge — for a blind used once or twice a day, that's many months between charges. Recharging takes a few hours via the magnetic USB charging cable, and an optional solar panel can keep the battery permanently topped up. TruBlockout's built-in lithium battery is rated for up to 6 months per charge and recharges via USB-C.

What's the difference between your fabric options?

For Zipscreen we offer three main mesh ranges: Outlook Mode — the market leader with 5% openness, a 15-year manufacturer UV warranty and Microban antimicrobial treatment; Skyline 94 — 6% openness with a 10-year UV warranty; and Vistaweave 95 — 5% openness with a 10-year UV warranty in 16 Colorbond-inspired colours. A fire-retardant option (Solterior FR) and clear or tinted PVC are also available. Fabric warranties are the fabric manufacturer's UV warranties; the Zipscreen hardware carries its own 5-year warranty.

Do I need Wi-Fi for my motorised blinds to work on a schedule?

No. Our Push Pro remote features offline timers that use built-in radio technology — not Wi-Fi. Your scheduled routines continue to work even if your internet drops out, you change routers, or the power goes out. We recommend the Push Pro for essential energy-saving schedules and the app for remote access when you're away from home.

Are your products actually Australian made?

Our hardware is designed and engineered at Rollease Acmeda's Innovation & Design Centre in Melbourne by a team of more than 25 engineers, designers and technicians — Acmeda has been engineering window coverings in Australia since 1980 and is ISO 9001 certified. Zipscreen systems are cycle-tested 10,000 times and UV chamber tested, and Zipscreen carries the official Australian Made mark. Your blinds themselves are custom made by an Australian Made–certified manufacturer right here on the Sunshine Coast.
